Your data and your device
I got a new phone. How do I move my portfolio to it?
Usually you do not have to do anything, but it depends on your platform.
Apple devices. Your portfolio is tied to your Apple account through the Keychain. Sign in to the same Apple account on the new device with Keychain enabled, and your portfolio is already there when you open the app. Losing the old phone is not a problem — nothing was only on that device.
Android. Your ID lives on the device itself, so it has to travel with you. Android's own transfer tool moves it along with the app. It is also part of the app's cloud backup, so it usually comes back by itself if you reinstall DivTracker on the new phone.
If your portfolio does not turn up, you can move it across manually with CSV export and import: Settings → Transactions → Export on the old phone, Settings → Transactions → Import on the new one. This works one portfolio at a time, so create each portfolio on the new phone and import them one by one.
Still nothing — old phone lost or already wiped? Email us. We can usually find your portfolio and move it across. Because accounts are anonymous, we can only identify it by your user ID (included automatically when you send feedback from the app) or by matching the transactions you describe, so tell us as much as you can about what was in it.
Why is there no login? Where is my data stored?
DivTracker accounts are anonymous — there is no sign-up, no password, and no personal profile. That is deliberate: you can use the app without handing over an identity.
Your portfolio is stored on our servers and kept on your device, so the app keeps working offline. Instead of a login, each installation has an ID that your portfolio is filed under — and what looks after that ID depends on the platform:
- iOS: it is held in your Apple account's Keychain. That is the closest thing to a login here, and it is why devices signed in to the same Apple account share a portfolio.
- Android: it is stored on the device and included in the app's cloud backup.
Can I use the same portfolio on two devices at once?
On Apple devices, yes. Devices signed in to the same Apple account with Keychain enabled share the same ID, so they show the same portfolio and keep each other up to date.
On Android, no. The ID is per device, so each phone has its own portfolio and changes on one do not reach the other. You can copy a portfolio across with CSV export and import, but that is a snapshot, not an ongoing sync.
My portfolio is empty or missing after reinstalling (Android)
Two different actions have very different results on Android, which is the usual cause:
- Uninstalling the app leaves your ID in the cloud backup, so reinstalling normally brings your portfolio back.
- Clearing app data (Settings → Apps → DivTracker → Storage) erases the ID from the device, and the app opens as if it were brand new.
If the app is empty, it is worth uninstalling and reinstalling it — the ID is often restored from the backup. If your portfolio is still missing, email us rather than starting over: your data is on our servers and we can usually find it and put it back.
How do I delete my data?
Since accounts are anonymous, there is no login or personal profile to remove. Deleting your transactions in the app and then uninstalling it is enough for most people.
Be aware that uninstalling is not necessarily a permanent wipe: your ID can come back from your Apple account's Keychain or from Android's cloud backup when you reinstall, and your portfolio with it. If you want everything removed for good, email us and we will take care of it on our side.
Missing or incorrect data
The market data for one of my positions looks wrong
Open the position to its Position Details screen and use the Request data fix menu item. It sends the request straight from the app, with the symbol attached, and is the fastest way to reach us.
This is the route for the data we supply: a wrong price, a wrong or missing dividend, a wrong ex-date or payment date, a split that was not applied. If it is still not right a day later, email us.
Are the prices delayed?
They can be. In most cases a price is delayed by 15 minutes, more rarely by an hour, and in some corner cases by one or two working days. A little lag is normal rather than a fault — so if a price looks slightly off, it is usually just catching up, not something to report.
My contributions or average cost look wrong
Figures like contributions, invested cost and average share cost are calculated from your own transactions, not from anything we supply — so Request data fix will not help here. Check your transaction history for that position first (open the position and tap the clock icon in the bottom bar): a duplicated import, a missing sell, or the wrong date or currency on a single transaction accounts for nearly all of these.
If the transactions are right and the numbers still are not, email us with a screenshot.
A symbol I want is missing
Email us the symbol and the exchange it trades on. We pass the request to our data providers; if they support the symbol, it usually appears within a few days.
Are stock splits applied automatically?
Yes. Splits and reverse splits are applied for you — you do not need to adjust your transactions by hand. Like dividends, a split is not a transaction, so it does not get an entry of its own in your history. You see it on the transactions instead: one affected by a split shows both the split-adjusted share count and the original, unadjusted one, and you can tap it to see which splits were applied and what each did. A transaction with no split behind it simply shows its share count.
If a split has not been applied, or was applied incorrectly, that is a data problem on our side: send a Request data fix and we will correct it.
After a split I have fractional shares my broker didn't give me
Splits are applied automatically (above), and the app works out the new share count exactly — which can leave you with a fractional position. Most brokers do the same. Some, though, round up to whole shares and never hold the fraction, so the app shows a fraction your broker does not. The split itself was applied correctly, so Request data fix is not the tool here — this is a mismatch with how your broker rounds, and you correct it with a transaction of your own:
- Add a sell transaction dated the split's ex-date, selling only the fractional part.
- To enter the exact fraction without working it out: open the position, tap SELL ALL SHARES, then edit the whole-number part of the quantity down to zero — that leaves just the fraction to sell.
- For the price per share, check your broker's history and match what it shows there.
Transactions and portfolios
How do I edit or delete a transaction?
There are two ways to reach your transactions:
- For one position: open it and tap the clock icon in the bottom bar to open its history.
- For everything: Settings → Transactions → History.
From there you can edit or delete individual transactions at any time. To close a position, add a sell transaction for all remaining shares rather than deleting it — that keeps its performance in your returns.
On Android, a position cannot currently be deleted from the Combined portfolio view. This is a known issue; switch to the individual portfolio that holds the position and delete it there.
My stock is quoted in a subunit (pence/agorot/cents). What do I enter?
Enter the price in the main currency. Some exchanges quote prices in a currency subunit rather than the main unit — British pence (GBX) for GBP, Israeli agorot (ILA) for ILS, South African cents (ZAC) for ZAR. When you enter a transaction by hand, subunits are not supported: each is exactly a hundredth of the main currency, so divide the quoted figure by 100 — a share shown as 1,543 goes in as 15.43.
London, Tel Aviv and Johannesburg listings are where this catches people out, because most brokers and quote screens for those markets show the subunit. If a position's cost looks a hundred times too big, this is almost always why — open the position, tap the clock icon in the bottom bar, and correct the price on the transaction.
One exception: on Apple devices, CSV import reads subunit-quoted prices directly, so a file exported from your broker in pence, agorot or cents imports without converting. On Android, convert to the main currency before importing for now.
How do I delete a portfolio?
A portfolio has to be emptied before it can be deleted, so the option only appears once it is:
- Open the Settings tab.
- Tap Selected Portfolio.
- If it still holds transactions, you will see Clean Up first — use that to empty it.
- Once the portfolio is empty, Delete appears.
How does CSV import and export work?
Both work per portfolio: Settings → Transactions → Export and Settings → Transactions → Import.
Importing into a portfolio that already has data replaces that portfolio's contents by default — it does not reconcile positions. On iOS you can change that with Settings → Transactions → Merge: turn it on and imported transactions are added to what is already there instead of replacing it. The switch is per portfolio.
If you are not sure what an import will produce, create a new portfolio and import there first so you can check the result. Exporting your current portfolio beforehand gives you a backup either way.
Can I add a symbol that isn't listed, or track cash and gold?
Custom symbols cannot be added manually — the upkeep of hand-entered securities creates problems we would rather not pass on to you. If a symbol you need is missing, ask us to add it instead and we will request it from our data providers.
Support for cash balances, bonds and gold is planned, but we cannot promise a date. Crypto is available on iOS and is coming to Android.
How do I sort my portfolio?
Tap the sorting arrows in the top-right corner of the Portfolio tab, just below the header. They cycle through ascending, descending, and alphabetical — tap until both arrows are greyed out to get back to alphabetical order.
Broker Sync
Can I connect my broker?
On iOS, yes. Broker Sync is a Premium feature that imports your transactions so you do not have to enter them: Settings → Selected Portfolio → + → Connect Broker. It is coming to Android.
The connection is read-only and runs through our provider, SnapTrade. DivTracker never receives your broker credentials or personal information — only the portfolio and transaction data your broker shares.
Connecting creates a new portfolio for each brokerage account you choose to share. Your existing portfolios are not touched, so a connection cannot disturb a portfolio you built by hand.
My broker isn't in the list
Only a few brokers are supported today and we are adding more over time, along with other broker-link providers. The current list is in the app under Settings → Selected Portfolio → + → Connect Broker.
If yours is missing but SnapTrade supports it, ask for it through Settings → Contact Us — requests are what we use to decide which broker to add next.
What doesn't Broker Sync import?
Some things are not imported yet, and are worth knowing before you rely on it:
- Option trades are not supported and will be missing.
- Cash transactions are not supported until cash tracking arrives in the app.
- Transactions for symbols we do not carry are not imported.
- Complex events such as mergers or portfolio transfers may need correcting by hand.
Support for more transaction types will improve over time, but we cannot promise a date.
What happens to the connection if I cancel Premium?
The broker connection is eventually removed, for security and maintenance. Reconnecting later means going through the full setup again.
Dividends and DRIP
Do I need to record my dividends?
No. Dividends are counted as income automatically and included in your total return, whether or not DRIP is switched on.
Do not go looking for them in your transaction history, though: dividends and splits are not transactions in DivTracker. They appear on the Events tab, and the app uses them to work out your position and portfolio totals. Your transactions are the buys and sells you entered — plus DRIP purchases, if you have DRIP switched on.
How does DRIP work?
With DRIP enabled, dividends are reinvested for you and appear as DRIP transactions. If your broker does not deal in fractional shares, turn off Settings → DRIP → Fractional Shares and DRIP shares are rounded down to a whole number instead, so the app matches what your broker actually does.
Will the app notify me about dividends?
Not yet. Notifications for events such as dividend declarations are planned, but there is no release date to share.
Subscription
Is there a lifetime or one-time purchase?
No — the subscription pays for costs that recur whether or not anyone buys the app: market data licensing, servers, and continued development. A one-time payment cannot cover an ongoing bill, so a subscription is the honest way to fund it.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple (on iOS) and Google (on Android), so DivTracker cannot cancel them on your behalf. You can manage and cancel them at any time from your device:
- iOS: open the App Store subscriptions screen (Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions).
- Android: open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
The app itself
Is there a web or desktop version?
No — DivTracker is a mobile app. We would like to offer a web version one day, but our focus is on the mobile apps and there is nothing to announce.
Several unrelated apps and sites use similar names, which catches people out. If you are using something on a PC, it is not us.
What languages does the app support?
English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Thai, and Chinese in both Simplified and Traditional.
The app follows your device language. To change it for DivTracker alone, use your device settings — on iOS, Settings → Apps → DivTracker → Language.
Feature requests
Can you add a feature I need?
Ask — email us or use Settings → Contact Us. There is no wrong way to send an idea, and a short note about what you are trying to do is enough.
We keep every request, and how many people ask for the same thing is what decides which we build next. Most of what we ship started as a user's email. We cannot promise dates, and not everything fits the app — but nothing gets counted if it is never sent.
